BREAKTHROUGH

Subang Utama Model United Nations, or SUMUN, is an organisation formed under the mandate of the English Society of SMK Subang Utama. It is the heart of a small but thriving community of individuals within the school, passionate about current global issues, that is active in the Malaysian MUN scene and seeks to attend conferences all around the country.

 

SUMUN aims to expose secondary-school students to global issues, and provide a platform for them to discuss and debate these issues and their wider impact. Through this exercise, we hope to create individuals who can not only speak publicly and debate, but can also think critically, perform effective research, and work together to draft a variety of policy solutions on difficult world issues. We hope that our efforts will contribute towards building a more proactive, well-informed, and vigilant society.

 

In our position as one of few MUN Clubs based in a government school, SUMUN also aspires to become a proponent of MUN towards other government schools within the Subang Jaya area. To achieve that, we hope to encourage students from neighbouring schools to partake in our activities. We ultimately hope to establish a network of local schools that can cooperate during activities and frequently exchange ideas.
